Donald Trump's proved he is more popular with the Latino community, despite his previous claims over ethnic minorities in the US. This comes as Biden failed to win a 'landslide' election, but managed to win the election meaning Trump is the first president to only serve one term since 1992.

US ELECTION SPECIAL

Bringing the latest news from across the US as the election unfolds

- Last updated 11/11/2020 10:00Am

Closest race ever recorded in American history as Biden takes the 270 votes after winning Pennsylvania securing him over 290 votes, but an angry Trump insists voter fraud was apparent in most states as he begins legal proceedings against them, despite a single drop of evidence and only in states he lost.

So, what exactly are electoral college votes? Well, the US' elections work very differently compared to the UK's. Instead of the number of votes counted to declare a winner, the winner is decided by the number of electoral college votes each candidate gets. Quite simply, the more populated the state, the higher the number of electoral college votes with New York, one of the smallest states carrying one of the largest electoral college numbers.

Biden's route to victory:

First declaring his interest in running in the 2020 election in early 2017, Biden was not predicted to even be nominated for democratic candidate, nevermind winning the presidency 3 years later. Despite Biden being declared president-elect, Trump is having none of it insisting fraud occurred in the key states he needed to win as previously republican states, Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania all turned democratic. After 5 long and what seemed like never-ending days, the winner was finally declared as Pennsylvania flipped blue, securing Biden who had previously been on 253 votes enough to surpass 270.

Biden and Harris have secured enough votes to be declared as the winners of the 2020 US election Now the race is over many are speculating just how the inauguration on the 20th January will go ahead. With Biden's rallies in the past being praised for their small number of people, with people often being told to stay in their cars to observe social distancing rules, with many left wondering if it will even go ahead with claims of major fraud being alleged by Trump, despite no evidence.
